When I heard about StoryCorps One Small Step Project, I thought, “Yes, this is for me. I’m into this.” And I signed right up.
The conversation was a tough one. It wasn’t what I expected.
And, honestly, this conversation didn’t back the mission of the program which is to build bridges over seemingly-impassable divides.
I actually felt less empathy leaving than I did going in. I’m sorry to admit that and it’s true.
And so I share this in the spirit of transparency, as a place where I found where more of my learning curve in opening myself to others, bringing curiosity again and again, and staying in the game lies.
