Let’s get right to it.
I love coaching. I love it so much that I’m sometimes sheepish about it. I love it so much that I sometimes wonder if my wife gives side-eye to coaching like she would a flirtatious stranger.
There is a problem, though…
…all the self-awareness and strategies and jet packs shooting folks to their bigger life and badder self is hedged in inequity.
That is, coaching is an advantage that goes almost exclusively to already-advantaged people.
And that doesn’t work for me.
Hence, this scholarship program.
Later on this page, you’ll find:
- More about the program
- How to contribute to the scholarship fund
- The application! (at least, during application periods…)
Already have questions or want to touch base? Here’s the form for that:
Let’s talk!
If this page hasn’t answered your questions about the scholarship, I want to know! Send me a note and let’s get some connection happening!
Scholarship deets:
- Scholarships will include 6 45-minute coaching sessions and support between sessions via email and text
- Applications are accepted during 4 two-week periods, one per calendar quarter
- A team of three people of diverse perspectives and backgrounds are joining me in vetting applications
- The award may or may not be for a full scholarship; this is based on each applicant’s need
- None of us are interested in vetting anyone’s financials. Instead, we’re trusting integrity, which is to say, if you can’t afford coaching because you’re vacationing in Bali this year or because you’ve just purchased an Audi SUV, please do not apply. I would love to talk with you when your budget allows.
So, who is this scholarship for?
Anyone who feels a fire in their belly that you just can’t figure out how to stoke yourself.
Anyone who is committed to leaving this world a wee bit better than you found it, whatever that means to you as a unique individual.
Anyone who is willing to treat this resource as though you emptied your bank account to get it and are unwilling to let even a penny of that investment go to waste.
And if you’re BIPOC, part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, living with a disability (visible or invisible): I see you, I care about your voice, and I’m eager to see if I can help you make your unique impact in this world.
How is the scholarship funded?
Why yes, I am getting paid. As several of my mentors have emphasized, we have to give from what we have, not what we wish we had.
That said, I’m offering the scholarship at a discounted rate to make it as easy as possible to fund, a sort of matching program.
Other scholarship funds come from paid subscriptions to my Substack, Death + Stuff.
Would you like to skip the subscription and just add to the fund? You can do so here:

Applications reopen in October 2024!
In the meantime, be thinking about what you’d want to get out of coaching – what’s the vision that feels elusive, the dream that feels just out of reach, the world impact that you most want to make? I’d love to hear from you in October!
For the sake of equitability in the application process, too, you can apply in one of three formats
(please choose just one)
1. Written. Please keep writings to under 1,000 words
2. Video. Upload to YouTube or elsewhere online and then send us the link. Please keep videos to under 5 minutes.
3. Audio. Upload to a cloud and send us the link. Please keep audio to under 5 minutes.
No time like the present to start preparing your application, though!
Be sure to include information like:
- Specific goals that you hope to achieve
- What makes these goals integral to your unique definition of your Life Well Lived
- Some context around why you need a scholarship rather than talking with me about my flexible rate schedule
Please, oh please, do not apply for a scholarship if you can afford coaching but just prefer to not pay the full rate, or if your budget is stretched due to how much fun you’ve been off having or how well you’ve been spoiling yourself materially. I applaud you choosing to treat yourself and want this money to remain earmarked for those who truly cannot access this advantage without a hand from some kind strangers.
What to expect!
Maybe you've never experienced a coaching collaboration before, maybe you're just curious about how I welcome folks into my coaching practice - either way, I made a wee brief video that walks you from first hello all the way into the mechanics of a coaching collaboration!

Meet SB...
Known equally for her laughter and her cogent questions, SB is the business coach who takes a holistic view and the empowerment coach who brings the work down to earth. While her psychology degree from UNC-Greensboro and coach training from the Coach Training Alliance shaped her understanding of human behavior, her innate abilities to create cohesive pictures out of seemingly disparate parts and see people from the intersection of what is and what could be are what makes coaching with SB a particularly unique experience. From the brick ranch on a creek in Southwest Virginia that she shares with her wife, Theresa, and their pit bull pup, SB collaborates with those seeking their bigger selves and badder lives across the country and around the world.

I’m giving up on trying to be healthy and all of the tail-chasing perfectionism that can go with it. Thing is, I have a better idea these days.
Yoga off the mat
We tend to think of yoga as the classes where very thin white people gather in swanky neighborhoods. There is so much more to it, especially when we take it off the mat.
