Thank you for your precious, limited time

Each Monday, I publish a new blog post and I ask you for the most precious thing you have: Some of your time.

If you are reading this, you’ve granted me this biggest of asks. You’re taking a moment to consider the words that I put down for you, the thoughts and ideas that I wanted to share with you.

I hope that each week, I honor your precious time with writings that are meaningful to you, that enhance your life somehow, or that stir up thoughts and ideas in you that do.

In some way, each and every one of us are asking other people to share some of their precious and limited time with us. We post to social media and ask that our friends and/or followers read, maybe share. We write newsletters, invite people to dinner or coffee, create art and events – even asking to be let into the flow of traffic means asking another driver to delay their journey, if only for a second or three.

Are you honoring this most scarce of resources that people are allowing you?

That’s the question I’ve been asking myself lately: Am I honoring your time? And more: How could I more fully honor the time you give me? How can I show more generosity, more gratitude, more appreciation for the gift of your attention?

To those of you who read these posts through my blog or social media, my answer is to be even more thoughtful about what I write for you, to be even more conscious of the themes that I see in my conversations and daily life and reflect on them for you in case you’re finding these same themes popping up in yours.

To those of you who have gone beyond the gift of your precious time and also offer me the permission to send these posts directly to your inbox – your busy and full email inbox – to you I offer even more gratitude and thanks and appreciation. You’ve been on my mind the most. If I could, I’d give you each a hug or high-five; I’d look into your eyes and ask you what’s been on your mind lately. I’d truly like to know.

In the meantime, I’ve decided to stop publishing my newsletter to social media so that I can fill it with gifts for you: Gifts of bonus videos, thoughts, and compelling online finds; gifts of things, like giveaways of books that have been striking me deep lately; and gifts of my attention including live, free web chats open only to subscribers and whoever you may want to invite.

If you don’t get my newsletter and want to get in on the waves of gratitude heading that way, you can sign up here. There’s always an unsubscribe at the bottom if you change your mind, and I’ll never share your contact info with anyone. Not even if Jack Bouer comes to my door holding a plugged in lamp that he then strips the live wires from and waves at me menacingly.

Okay, maybe then I would.

One more little gift, a reminder I have written on the board next to my desk; click on it and you can download it to post it by yours.
